About us
A voluntary organisation founded on 6 April 2022 to walk with those who fled war and are building a new life in Oviedo, Gijón and Avilés.
Our story
The Asociación en Acción y Cooperación por Ucrania (ACU) was founded on 6 April 2022 with tax ID G10599322 by a group of four people committed to accompaniment and the rights of refugees. We are registered in the Register of Associations of the Principality of Asturias under number 13.345.
According to UNHCR, millions of Ukrainians left their homes within weeks of the invasion. In that first phase, neighbouring countries received most refugees. Gradually a second phase followed: movements towards other EU countries. In Asturias we chose to be present so no one would face paperwork, language or loneliness alone.
We are an organisation independent of creeds, political parties and companies, dedicated to supporting the Ukrainian people and promoting peaceful coexistence. Today we have 50 active members and a WhatsApp network of more than 2,000 people.

As president of the Asociación en Acción y Cooperación por Ucrania, I want to welcome you. Here you will find clear information about our aims, activities and, above all, the people whose generosity makes this work possible.
From the start of the invasion, a small group of volunteers decided to join forces and create this organisation. In a short time we have grown thanks to the solidarity of many people who, like you, believe that accompaniment and peace have no borders.
Your collaboration — whether your time, effort or financial support — helps us sustain welcome in Asturias. Together, we can move mountains.
I also invite you to share suggestions, comments or concerns. Every word counts and helps us improve day by day.

Support services in Asturias
From the first welcome to independence: language, health, paperwork, housing, entrepreneurship and community.
Language and integration
Spanish courses for Ukrainian people in Avilés, aimed at linguistic, social and labour integration. Sign up for the course. Inclusive leisure and activities for minors, refugees and people with disabilities.
Paperwork, health and housing
Accompaniment and translation in healthcare; help with procedures before town halls, the Principality and other bodies; guidance on immigration and temporary protection; DGT procedures; and support for families seeking dignified, stable housing.
Entrepreneurship and community
Guidance for entrepreneurship to foster economic independence. Collaboration with the food bank for Ukrainian children. Cultural and community events, awareness-raising and coordination with Ukrainian groups in Asturias.
